Scripture:
When pride comes, disgrace follows,
but with humility comes wisdom.
Proverbs 11:2
Observation: Again, the Proverbs address pride and humility, in this case directly associated humility and wisdom. Conversely, pride is aligned to disgrace.
Application: In the last two weeks, I have been getting so angry and frustrated, and I feel myself crossing over the line where I will begin engaging in confrontation. This will ruin credibility, create enemies, and eliminate the possibility of progress for both my work and the people around me. At its root is my pride - or at the very least, my lack of humility. Being humble is hard, especially around arrogant people who will attack and deride and insult. Those things ... hurt. Yes, maybe they shouldn't as I know I should look to God for my value. However, they do, though of course my efforts to fight against them hurt too, just in different ways.
I would seek wisdom. Therefore, I must find humility. I think it will hurt to do so, but God's truth is likely that humility will instead produce true joy, success, and worth.
Prayer: Lord, I ask today for the strength to not fight, the temperament to not get angry, the heart of leadership that would make me the least. I serve you alone, and not myself. Amen.
