Introduction to Hope

Scripture: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:3-5

Observation: Most apostle letters begin with praise of God and pronouncement of faith in Jesus. This letter is no different, as it quickly praises God for the promise of love, mercy, and eternal life through faith and hope and Jesus.

Application: I need God's love, hope, and blessing today. I remain discouraged by worldly events, and I am further frustrated by challenges at work. Nothing is un-overcome-able, and this introduction by Peter today reminds me of that fact. God has protection, promises, and love for me. That same love extends to all believers, and to the entire world, especially to those who place their hope in Jesus.

I place my hope in Jesus every day. And today, I further claim God's promised protection and love, even as I go through trials and challenges. They are nothing ... they are even small by worldly comparisons, and even smaller in the context of eternal salvation and life in heaven with Jesus. I shall not worry, nor shall I be afraid, for today God walks with me.

Prayer: My Lord and father, thank you for your love, and for the love and salvation of Jesus. Please be with me today. Please guide my words and my work. May I be an instrument that helps others, through wise decisions and insightful words may my work improve the lives of others. Mostly, may I serve your will today both in my life and in the lives of others. Amen.
