Divisive Behaviors

Scripture: But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless. Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them. Titus 3:9-10

Observation: Divisive people in the church engage in four useless activities - they quarrel about rules and traditions; they randomly argue; they engage in meaningless controversies; they rely upon their family name for honor.

Application: Once again, I self reflect on this list to determine which of these I may be doing. While I may engage in some argumentative discussions outside the church, I do not think I do this a lot within the church. What I am most likely to do, then, is not to warn others of their behavior. I need to pay attention to this ... I need to first watch myself better to ensure I am not being divisive, then I need to love others in order to gently correct them when I see it.

Prayer: Lord, please give me the heart of your Spirit when serving within your church. May I not be divisive, and may I instead be an example for peaceable living within the body of Christ. Amen.
