They will Not Go Unpunished

Scripture:
The Lord detests all the proud of heart.
Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.
Proverbs 16:5

Observation: The section of small, short, two-line proverbs include several about pride. This example states the wisdom just a bit differently. First, it is clear that the Lord detests the "proud of heart", implying a pride that is imbedded into one emotions, not their logic. Second, this proverb makes it clear that the Lord will punish those with this form of pride, however there is an implication that it may take time, as the read is encouraged "be sure" it will come (or another way of saying it, 'be patient').

Application: Seattle held its terrible "Pride Parade" yesterday. They estimate hundreds of thousands either attend or participate, and this year they coordinated this event for the last weekend in June in order to maximize the taunting they could do to the entire world as it intersected with World Cup visitors from the middle east.

I weep at what Seattle has become in every way. I struggle to even understand how and why this has happened, and how it is that so very many people are deceived into the thoughts and ways of life now exhibited in this place. And today, the proverbs comfort me. Those who have connected the way of pride to their emotional ... who live at the intersection of being proud about how they emotionally embrace sin ... will not go unpunished. Yes, it will take time, and for all I know that means the punish comes after this lifetime, but the punishment will come, and it belongs to the Lord.

Prayer: Lord, I pray again today, come, Lord Jesus. Amen.
