As water reflects the face,
so one’s life reflects the heart.
Proverbs 27:19
Observation: In this section of proverbs, the writer focuses on how someone's actions ultimately reveal what they think and feel. Just as a portrait of someone doesn't truly show what they look like, but rather their reflection does, so someone's words don't truly show what they think, but rather their actions do.
Application: Over and over, I know I fail the Lord by my actions. I declare I love the Lord and have faith in Jesus, then I swear and lust and lie and get angry with others over meaningless things. I spend my time engaged in meaningless activities instead of meditating on the word of the Lord, praying, or worshipping. In summary, my life reflects a heart that is not aligned to what I say or wish.
Prayer: Lord, I understand that my actions are flawed and wrong. I do want your strength to fix my life, correct my actions, focus my heart, and become more and more steadfast in you. Please, Lord, lead me and my family along your path every day. Please hold my hand and help my life reflect faith in you alone. Amen.
