Rejoice in the Midst of It

Scripture:
Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.

Habakkuk 3:17-18

Observation: Habakkuk pronounces an angry challenge to God about the state of the people of Judah, and God responds that soon Babylon will be his instrument of punishment. Habakkuk then asks God about the punishment of that violence, and God makes it clear that he will handle it. So Habakkuk prays about the glory and power and authority of God ... knowing terrible times are coming ... and this is how he concludes.

Habakkuk knows all the good things in life will fail and die and be taken away, yet he will rejoice! He will be joyful in God, who remains his savior.

Application: Yesterday, God confirmed my situation was not 'fair' and that it was okay if I was mad about it. And today, I shouted 'Hallelujah' in the midst of my broken and failing life. My field is producing no food, I have no more sheep in the pen, my trees and vines are not producing ... and I sincerely praise the Lord as my savior and my God!

Prayer: Lord, your ways are perfect, and your plan is already complete. You stand on the other side of this situation waiting for me. May I please continue to have the strength to simply walk humbly every day. You have my broken Hallelujah. Amen.
